HEARTWORM PREVENTION

Tri-Heart Plus® (ivermectin/pyrantel) Chewable Tablets [℞]
Tri-Heart Plus is a chewable tablet given once a month to protect against heartworm disease. It is a generic alternative to HEARTGARD® Plus. It also treats and controls roundworms and hookworms, and is safe for dogs and puppies as young as six weeks. Dogs six months of age and older should be tested for heartworm disease prior to being put on a preventive program, and at least every two years when continuing this program.

Sentinel is a monthly flavored tablet which, in addition to preventing heartworm disease, also prevents and controls fleas without leaving a residue on your pet like topical treatments. It also treats and controls roundworms, whipworms, and hookworms, and is safe for dogs and puppies as young as four weeks weighing at least two pounds. Dogs six months of age and older should be tested for heartworm disease prior to being put on a preventive program, and every year when continuing this program.

FLEA PREVENTION

Combiva® II (imidacloprid/pyriproxyfen)
Combiva is a generic alternative to Advantage®. It is a monthly topical solution that is applied to your pet’s skin. It effectively stops existing flea infestation by killing adult fleas and prevents further re-infestation and kills re-infesting fleas within two hours. It also breaks the flea life cycle and prevents flea eggs from developing into adult fleas, and is waterproof after application. Because it is a topical treatment, fleas do not have to bite your pet for the medication to work. Combiva can be used on dogs and puppies as young as seven weeks old, and cats and kittens as young as eight weeks old.

Comfortis® (spinosad) [℞]
Comfortis is a chewable tablet that kills fleas and prevents flea infestations on dogs and cats for a full month. It has been shown to kill fleas within 30 minutes and kill 98%-100% of fleas within 4 hours, before the fleas can lay eggs. Comfortis can be used for dogs 3.3 pounds or greater, cats 2 pounds or greater, and puppies and kittens 14 weeks and older.

Note: Do not use this product if you are also using ivermectin in an off-label method with a dosage greater than that which is normally used for heartworm prevention (e.g. ivermectin for mange treatment).

FLEA & TICK PREVENTION

Frontline® Plus (fipronil/s-methoprene)
Frontline Plus is a monthly topical solution that is applied to your pet’s skin and works to kill fleas within 12 hours and all stages of 4 major tick species within 48 hours. In addition to killing adult fleas, ticks, and chewing lice, Frontline Plus also kills flea eggs and larvae and prevents all flea life stages (eggs, larvae, pupae) from developing. This product may be used on dogs and cats eight weeks and older.

Bravecto® (fluralaner)
Bravecto is a chewable medication that starts killing fleas within 2 hours and kills >98% of fleas within 12 hours for 12 weeks. Bravecto kills 100% of ticks on dogs within 12 hours and has no known resistance. Bravecto can be given to pregnant, breeding, and lactating dogs, and dogs weighing at least 4.4 lbs and for puppies aged 6 months or older.
